CLE Day 2023 - "Protecting the Rights of Clients"

About the Course

"Protecting the Rights of Clients" is a 6-credit Continuing Legal Education (CLE) course aimed at attorneys, paralegals, and law students interested in learning more about pro bono and civil legal aid. Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic staff attorneys and trusted volunteers will present on a diverse set of topics, including immigration, taxpayer protections, equitable justice, housing law, and more.

Attendance will be monitored throughout the day, and credits will be reported for all Indiana-licensed attorneys following the CLE. Certification of attendance can be provided for paralegals and law students upon request.

All-Day CLE: "Representing Vulnerable Clients"

"Representing Vulnerable Clients" is a 6-credit Continuing Legal Education (CLE) course aimed at attorneys, paralegals, and law students interested in digging deeper into pro bono and/or civil legal aid. Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic staff attorneys, as well as guest attorneys and professionals, will present on a robust variety of topics, including immigration, family law, working with interpreters, domestic violence, and more. This 6-part course includes 1 credit hour of ethics. Guests can purchase all-day tickets for the in-person event at Barnes & Thornburg LLP, or half-day virtual tickets.

We need volunteers!
On Saturday, April 18th, Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic and Immigrant Welcome Center are partnering to host a Citizenship Workshop at Southeast Community Services Center. During this Clinic Day, we will assist eligible immigrants in preparing the applications necessary to become United States citizens. We will need the help of attorneys, law students, Spanish interpreters, and general volunteers. Light breakfast foods and lunch will be provided for all volunteers, who are asked to check in at 8:45 AM and may leave when finished assisting clients, around 1 PM.

DACA Renewal Clinic Day | One-Day Volunteer Event | 1 CLE

We need volunteers! 
On Saturday, October 19th, the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic is hosting a DACA Renewal Clinic Day at St. Monica Catholic Church, in partnership with the Nicholas H. Noyes Jr. Memorial Foundation. During this Clinic Day, we will assist eligible recipients in renewing their DACA status, help participants explore other possible immigration relief eligibility, and inform participants of the legal rights they have regardless of immigration status. We will need the help of Volunteer Attorneys, Law Student Volunteers, and General Volunteers. Light breakfast foods and lunch will be provided for all volunteers, who are asked to check in at 8:45 AM and may leave around 12:30 PM.

This 90 minute training* will be presented by Chase Haller, Staff Attorney with Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic and will be beneficial for attorneys interested in doing intakes at one of the Clinic’s intake sites. This training is intended for attorneys who are licensed to practice law in Indiana with the status of “active in good standing.” Participants will learn more about the Clinic’s vision for intake and how to do high-quality intakes on the most common legal issues that our low-income neighbors confront.

Naturalization Day | 1 CLE | One-Day Volunteer Event

Naturalization Day is an opportunity to assist immigrant neighbors in the naturalization process. We will provide a 1 hour CLE training for attorneys on how to appropriately complete immigration forms N-400 Application for Naturalization and I-912 Request for Fee Waiver. After this training, attorneys and other volunteers will be able to assist pro bono clients applying for U.S. citizenship.

Volunteer opportunities are available for attorneys, law students, Spanish interpreters, and general volunteers.

Naturalization Day is an opportunity to help lawful permanent residents become citizens of the United States. Aimee Korolev, Directing Attorney at Indiana Legal Services' Immigrants' and Language Rights Center, will train volunteer attorneys on how to complete immigration form N-400, Application for Naturalization. Then, volunteer attorneys will meet directly with clients from partnering organizations to complete the application.
