We need volunteers* to help eligible immigrant neighbors apply for citizenship!
Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic and Immigrant Welcome Center are partnering to host a virtual Citizenship Clinic Day on Saturday, September 19th, from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM. The morning will begin with a virtual training on Zoom, which will teach you how to complete the N-400 Application for Naturalization and will be worth 1 CLE credit for Indiana attorneys. Then, from about 10:00 to 11:00 AM and from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, each volunteer attorney or approved law student will meet with clients virtually (ideally via video call) to complete the necessary application forms. These applications will be reviewed by Clinic immigration staff, and clients will file them pro se.
Important Technological Considerations
Unlike the Clinic's first virtual one-day event, Citizenship Day will NOT require volunteers to use Clinic-owned laptops. Volunteers will each receive a Clinic volunteer email account, through which they will receive blank applications and return completed ones. Volunteers will use their personal computer to digitally complete the PDF applications, so the computer will need to have a PDF reader. During each volunteer's two client meetings, the volunteer will video-call the client, using either a second personal device (smartphone, tablet, or laptop) or the same computer used to fill the PDFs.
To volunteer for this event, you must be comfortable filling out, saving, and emailing PDF documents to us; you must also feel comfortable video-calling through Microsoft Teams (though no personal Teams account is necessary). Thank you very much!
This event is brought to you in partnership with The Clowes Fund and Immigrant Welcome Center.
*Clients, please call Immigrant Welcome Center at (317) 808-2326 to register.
