Housing & Consumer
Justice Program
about this program
Our Housing team assists with housing law issues, such as evictions, security deposits, repairs, and accessibility issues. Our office does not provide financial assistance for housing matters. We also offer legal assistance with consumer law issues such as debt collection and garnishments for clients whose income is at or below 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Tenant Advocacy Project (TAP)
Indianapolis has one of the highest rates of evictions in the United States. Due to growing eviction rate concerns, the City of Indianapolis launched the Tenant Advocacy Project (or TAP). This program provides attorneys and tenant navigators in eight township small claims courts.
The Clinic collaborates with the Mayor’s Office of Public Health and Safety, Indiana Legal Services (ILS), and Indianapolis Legal Aid Society (ILAS) to provide TAP information and free legal services. Our Housing team is accepting walk-in clients—free of charge—on a first-come, first-served basis at the Washington Township Small Claims Court (WTSCC), Decatur Township Small Claims Court (DTSCC), and Perry Township Small Claims Court (PTSCC).
If you need immediate assistance, please contact the Tenant Information Hotline at (317) 327-2228.
